The PowerScreen System

A Screen System That
Earns Your Margin

Most motorized screen systems on the market are assembled from third-party components — motors, tracks, and headboxes sourced from whoever had them in stock that quarter. If something goes wrong, you're making calls to three different vendors.

The PowerScreen is built differently. Every component — the headbox, the zipper retention system, the ball-bearing idlers, the powder coat finish — is proprietary to La Costa. We control the supply chain, which means we control the lead time, the quality, and the warranty.

When something goes wrong on a job, you call one number. A person answers.

  • Zipper retention: superior funnel geometry prevents blowout at high wind loads
  • Quiet ball-bearing idlers — premium double-grade, injection-molded nylons
  • Units to 30 ft width from a single uninterrupted headbox profile
  • 4.5" headbox — sleek enough for architectural spec projects
  • Maverick remote: USB-C rechargeable, IP65 water resistant, built for job site life
  • Ships faster than anyone in the category — stocked materials, two warehouses

Fabric Line

Maverick.
Our Fabric, Our Warranty.

La Costa doesn't resell third-party fabric on the PowerScreen — Maverick is our own line, engineered to spec alongside the headbox and zipper system. It's the only fabric on this system, and it's what makes the 20-year warranty possible: we control the material, so we can stand behind it.

Five grades cover the full range from open-weave visibility to full blackout privacy, each available across a curated color line.

Motor

Maverick — The Motor We Stand Behind

Maverick is La Costa's proprietary motor and remote system, built and supported in-house. It's the standard motor on every PowerScreen, and the only one covered by our 20-year warranty.

Motor Demo
Also Available

For projects already built around a Somfy ecosystem — TaHoma, Control4, Crestron — the PowerScreen also supports Somfy RTS/io motors. Somfy hardware carries Somfy's own manufacturer warranty, not La Costa's 20-year Maverick warranty — confirm the current term with your rep before quoting.

Rough Opening Requirements

What the Opening Needs
Before You Order

This is the field reference. Rough opening requirements vary by headbox mounting method (surface vs. recessed) and whether side channels go into masonry, wood, or aluminum framing.

The spec sheet in the dealer portal has the full tolerance table and header load calculations. What follows is the quick-ref for estimating.

  • Header must carry the headbox weight — verify structural capacity on spans over 20'
  • Power conduit runs inside the headbox profile — wire before setting headbox
  • Side channels require solid substrate — no hollow cavities behind track mounting
  • Bottom of opening needs a clean, level surface for the bottom bar to land on
  • Recessed headbox requires minimum 5" × 5" pocket depth
Full Rough Opening Guide
HEADBOX 5" SIDE CHANNEL SIDE CHANNEL 3" SCREEN PLANE BOTTOM BAR POWER CONDUIT
5"
Header Depth (Recessed)
Minimum pocket depth for a recessed headbox install. Surface mount has no depth requirement — headbox projects 4.5" from the face of the header.
3"
Side Channel Clearance
Minimum clear space inside of the rough opening on each side to accommodate track and zipper. Subtract 6" total from rough opening width for net screen width.
15A
Dedicated Circuit
One 120V dedicated 15A circuit per motor. For multi-drop patio systems, each motor runs to a single junction box — do not daisy-chain power.

Trade FAQ

What Dealers Ask Us Every Week

These are real questions from the field, not a marketing FAQ. If your question isn't here, call the rep line — someone picks up.

What's the longest single span without a center post or break?
30 feet — the full 360" in one uninterrupted headbox profile. That's not theoretical; it's what we manufacture and ship. Most competitors cap out at 20–22' before requiring a center post or a secondary headbox section. If you have an opening wider than 30', contact your rep — multi-drop configurations in sequence are a separate spec.
Can I spec Somfy instead of the standard Maverick motor?
Yes — Somfy RTS/io is available for projects already built around a Somfy ecosystem (TaHoma, Control4, Crestron). One thing to flag to the client: Somfy hardware carries Somfy's own manufacturer warranty, not La Costa's 20-year Maverick warranty. Maverick is the standard motor and remote for a reason — it's the one we control end to end and back with our own warranty.
What's covered under the 20-year warranty and how do I file a claim?
The 20-year limited warranty covers the Maverick motor and Maverick fabric to the original purchaser — not transferable. It does not cover installer error, substrate failure, impact damage, or the mesh/screen material itself (that's a consumable, same as every product in the category — rescreens are a flat-rate service). To file a claim: call the rep line with the installation date, opening dimensions, and a photo of the defect.
How do I spec the right motor torque for a large opening?
Torque is a function of opening width × fabric weight. The full torque selection chart is in the dealer portal under PowerScreen Specs. Quick rule: for openings under 20' with standard mesh fabric, 10 Nm covers it. 20–30' openings or heavier solar fabrics step up to 20–40 Nm. When in doubt, overspec the motor — undersizing is a callback.
What lead times can I actually promise my clients?
Standard colors and stocked fabrics ship [confirm with rep — this changes]. Custom RAL powder coat and specialty fabric orders add 6–8 weeks. We keep material stocked at two warehouses, so availability fluctuates — call your rep before quoting lead time to a client. We'd rather you under-promise than have a callback on a delay we could have flagged.
Do you supply engineering letters or wind load certifications for permit applications?
Yes — available to credentialed dealers in the dealer portal. If you need a jurisdiction-specific engineering letter, contact the rep line with the project address and opening dimensions. Turnaround is typically [confirm with Sam/Ryan]. We've done permit packages for coastal California, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida — if your jurisdiction requires something specific, ask before you quote.

Ready to Carry the PowerScreen?

Dealer applications take 5 minutes. If you're an installer who's been looking for a screen system you can actually stand behind, this is the conversation.
